The galleon San Diego was built as the trading ship San Antonio before hastily being converted into a warship. On December 14, 1600, the fully laden San Diego was engaged by the Dutch warship Mauritius under the command of Admiral Olivier van Noort a short distance away from Fortune Island, Nasugbu, Philippines. Since San Diego couldn't handle the extra weight of her cannons, which led to a permanent list and put the cannon portholes below sea level, she was sunk without firing a single shot in response. The Dutch were later reported firing upon and hurling lances at the survivors attempting to climb aboard the Mauritius.

**Japanese Mercenaries of the San Diego**
*Brave and bold, these "bushi" must have been recruited as mercenaries to supplement the fighting contingent on board of* **San Diego**. *Armed with two swords, a long one called a "katana" and a short a "wakizashi". They sometimes also carried a dagger or "tanto" most of the steel blades and hilts have been lost. Only the handle guards, called "tsuba" and the corresponding pieces cover the soldiers hand are frequently decorated with a family crest.*

**Spring Shot (lead, brass or iron wire)**
*The wire uncoils and spreads out as a result of the force of the explosions. Their probable purpose was to rip apart the sails and rigging of the enemy of the ships because they span as they flew through the air.*
**Gun powder shovel**
*These metal shovel were mounted on long wooden sticks, which were used to load gun powder.*
**Piece of armor, shoulder and neck armor, breast plate.**

Buckles are divided into three classes — not clearly to be distinguished one from another, buckles for closing with a tongue or a pin buckles to support object with a ring to which a hanger is connected and shoe buckles. The buckles is frequently decorated to watch the hangers.
