Good Evening Everybody!
Today I want to present a project that I have been several months developing, as part of my architecture studies. This project is about designing an hotel, which I call: Domino Hotel . In this post I want to show you how this piece was born.
Before showing you the building, is important for you to know how the shape and its name was born, that's why the next thing im going to explain to you is:
Domino Concept
To understand how this shape originates, and how do the dominoes get along in all this design, just imagine that you have some dominoes near to you, and you decide to put them in this position.
Then, you take some more, and start stacking them up like this:
And you keep stacking them like that until you get this tubular-shaped tower:
Now you got this tower, you decided to take two dominoes from each tower story:
and you took them in a way like this, transforming the shape of the tower in a double-helix:
Finally obtained this shape, the next thing I did was start to play with it and start becoming it a building.
First, I drove the shape to its basic form, the cylinder, purifying it. Also, added some volumes, which would be occupied by the non-lodging services:
After, I proceeded to line up some tower stories, to emphasize the double helix openings:
Then I started to play with the shape and extruded some volumes to add some dynamism:
And then, y added the vertical volumes where the lifts and the stairs would be located in the hotel. Also, i changed its initial proportions to make it look slimmer:
To finally determinate which surfaces would have some transparency, and which wouldn't:
This was the way how the building's final shape was defined
Now we know how its shape was born, it's time to see where the building is located, and what is inside!

Plans
This tower counts with 18 floors, where the first 5 and ground floor are destined to different non-lodging services. The 132 rooms that the tower has, are distributed from the 6th floor to the 18th one. Next, im going to show you the most important plans.
Ground Floor
This is the biggest floor in the building, where we can find the hotel reception, a cafe, a restaurant and several mini-shops.
2nd Floor
Here you can find the biggest part of the shops in the hotel and a banquet hall.
3rd Floor
This floor has an auditorium with its respectives dressing rooms and practice rooms, and a Exposition Gallery that works as a hall for the auditorium.
5th Floor
The recreative functions of this hotel concentrate on this floor, with a 114 m2 pool, a little cafe, and a multi-purpose room.
Rooms Plans
This is the basic room plan form, which is repeated from the 6th to the 18th floor, suffering some changes as its position changes in the tower.
Facades
Designing this tower took its efforts, but it has definitely worth every second .
I hope you liked it!
