Hello Steemians! Here is a caricature of an accomplished actor and a complete gentleman. He is also great fun to draw. Here is the process step by step:

Step 1 - Gesture sketching - thoughts on paper

This is where I play around with shapes to see which distorted shape will give the best likeness.

Step 2 - Changed my mind!

I didn't like where the first gesture sketch was going and I chose this shape. I think its going to work! It looks like nothing here  but is a graphic interpretation of whats going on in my head...

Step 3 - Capture the character traits

So I continue... scribbling down impressions that come to mind to add detail. So far, so good....

Step 4 - Adjustments and edits

Here I "mirror" the image. In digital art, it's quite simple...in Photoshop its "Edit - Transform - Flip horizontal" In conventional drawing, use a mirror. Most errors seem to stand out much more here and adjustments can be made...

Step 5 - Refining sketch and add detail

Now the likeness is emerging...still rough and quick but getting there...

Step 6 - Color and blocking in shades

I choose a mid-tone in the skin and make the whole background that color. Then I can concentrate on shading and highlights.

Step 7 - Finishing

This is the fun part...the likeness is captured. First, alter the background then paint in details and exaggerate key features of the personality.
