Acrylic painting, size A4
My painting is an interpretation of the Nordic runes called Thurs, the symbol of the giant's. I have chosen to depict the Midgard serpent, Midgårdsormen, and the wolf, Fenrisulven, both of which are descendants of giants. The giant Ymer peeping out behind the symbol of Thurs itself. Thurs lines can be found in the painting and in the middle of Thurs the universe can be seen.
I have placed the earth in the mouth of Midgårdsormen. In Nordic mythology, the Midgard serpent lies around the world and is a barrier between the world of people and the universe. Symbolic value means that the destructive serpent is what protects us from the eternity of world space. It is the very meaning of Thurs, the necessary chaos that is necessary for the existence of the earth.

Thurs is the second runes in the uthark order and it is pronounced th. Ur (which is the first run of the uthark) stands for the creative force. Thurs is its opposite and stands for the degradative force. Both equally necessary for the world to move forward in development.
The destructive but necessary power of Thurs is best seen through the story of the giant Ymer whose body was torn apart by the gods Oden, Ville och Ve. From Ymers slaughtered body the gods created the earth and the sky.
We must not forget that the Giants were the first creatures in the universe and therefore carry great wisdom, something that is also preserved in Thurs.
Thurs forces awake fear. Sometimes fear is a motivating driving force, but fear is a bad master to live under.
Thurs symbolizes the necessary but often painful breakthrough of old habits and outdated views.
