Major Arcana - Drapes of Cynosure | card № 5 The Hierophant

The Hierophant or commonly called the Pope, is the representative of God/Divine on Earth.

His role is that of an interpreter between two worlds, his task is to intercede between man and divinity and to balance the forces between Sky and Earth.

The composition is devoid of all the overpowering references to religion. To keep the card on the subject though, I have made three exceptions: the three-barred papal cross on his chest, the mitre and the traditional gesture of benediction adopted by the smaller figures.

Other relevant elements such as the triregnum, its substituted with three folds of ribbon floating on his mitre.

The white glove, symbol of papal power and purity, has disappeared because the mediator, the Pope, has no hands.

My Hierophant has no physical attributes or wealth to reinforce his power and to persuade faith. His empty-shell-like face will deflect the message to the two figures without “editing”.
It is up to them to recognize the message as blessing, and to act accordingly extinguishing it spiritually or materially.
