김환기의 점화 <고요>라는 작품이 65억 5천만원에 낙찰되었습니다. 2017년 4월의 일입니다. 2015년 10월 비슷한 크기의 그의 작품은 47억원이었습니다. 당시 박수근 ‘빨래터’ 경매가를 깨며 국내 최고가를 기록해 화제가 되었는데, 그 후 김환기의 작품은 몇 차례나 자신의 최고 경매가를 갱신하며, 독보적인 존재가 됩니다.
우리나라 화가 가운데 제가 가장 좋아하는 분이라 이렇게 높이 평가받는 게 기쁘면서도, 제가 구입할 가능성은 점점점점점점 낮아져 아쉽기도 합니다. 그의 조그만 작품 하나 사서 집 안에 걸면 얼마나 좋을까요? 허나 오늘은 이렇게 그의 그림과 연결된 기억을 한편 그려 올리는 것으로 조용히 마무리를 지어봅니다.
