Artwork #1 Major Depressive Disorder
12x18 Charcoal Painting
2020
"The Overwhelmed" Art Series
Heyo! How is it going? Hope ya'll doing great! Anyway, i'd like to share this piece I made as part of my new art series called "The Overwhelmed" and I'm using myself as a reference (idk if it sounds a bit narcissistic but i'm not, ok? Lol) It's just that i somehow experience some of those so it's best to represent it myself.
Also, I just thought if presenting those illnesses/disorders as a person could be helpful in a way in spreading awareness about them.
Artwork #1 is mainly about depression. It's one of the most common yet the most difficult things to deal with.
According to Mayoclinic.org:
"It's a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest."
It somehow affects how you feel, the way you think and behave, and worst can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. Doing the things you used to do isn't the same anymore and sometimes you may feel as if life isn't worth living.
This is a serious matter indeed and someone who's experiencing this needs immediate action.
According to Mayoclinic.org, the symptoms can be and not limited to:
- Feelings of sadness, tearfulness, emptiness or hopelessness
- Angry outbursts, irritability or frustration, even over small matters
- Loss of interest or pleasure in most or all normal activities, such as sex, hobbies or sports
- Sleep disturbances, including insomnia or sleeping too much
I don't want to lead people to self-diagnose and claim they have depression but! if you're somehow experiencing those things, don't worry there's a lot of people who are there to help. It's okay not to feel okay coz that is normal, just always remember that there are people who genuinely care for you. Who's always there if you want someone to talk to and are all ears for y'all.
Your feelings matter and you matter! Aja! Fighting!
... and now about
"The Overwhelmed" Art Series
This includes Charcoal Paintings displaying various mental disorders that are affecting many people of any age. That means anyone can be a victim and there's no exemption.
A lot people are going through hard times and the worst part is they don't have someone to talk to. They tend to hide themselves inside a box coz they're afraid of judgement... and sadly, that's what the majority of us are showing.
"It's all in your mind"
"You're over-reacting"
"Excuses..."
"You're crazy"
"You're weird"
And a lot more!
These things are real and it's currently happening in our society (especially these days of pandemic). Anyone can be a victim and it can be your smiling friend right beside you.
This is not to romanticize the illnesses but rather spread awareness to everyone that these people need us.
We have to show them that they shouldn't feel different and isolated... Because we understand how they feel.
A bit of the process
Stay tuned for the next artwork!
That's all for now, thanks!
