Yo! What's up? I have been enjoying my new set of colored pencils for the past few weeks now since I got multiple commission projects (thank you guys for trusting me ~~~~)
So I would love to share this recent portrait I made and the process how I made it.
This is the final output
The reference photo
Fortunately, the reference photo is clear so it wasn't that challenging unlike the others.
The Process
Sketching/Outlining
To make my life easier and for me to get the proportions accurately, i actually didn't do freehand sketching. Rather, I printed out my reference, shaded the back portion using pencil, and then tracing the outline until it forms/marks my drawing pad. Please dont judge me looool after that, I started adding up some color.
Coloring and Detailing
I started adding and mixing up some colors to achieve the skintone of my subject. I used the colors White, Peach, Light Umber, Dark Brown, Sienna Brown, and Cream for the yellow-ish highlights.
Adding up some shading and tone
I continued mixing up some colors using burnishing technique until i achieve the closest tone for me. Then started to add colors on the lips.
Finalizing the face
I detailed the eye and finalize everything on the face. I then started to add color to the hair using a black marker, overlaying it with a black colored pencil and some white for the highlights.
Finalizing everything
I continued working on the hair and added some highlights using the white colored pencil. Then, added color to the upper body. I used the colors cream, canary yellow, light umber, black, and red for the flower design. Also added a gradient background color using the cream and dark brown to emphasize my subject.
and it's done!
