Hey Steemians! Today I'm going to share my work process! I'm going to use one artwork commission I did, Kamila.
Reference
First, I ask for some existing reference of the character I'm about to draw. Luckily, the owner already have a couple of them.
Sketching
After determining the pose and choosing what outfit she'd wear, I begin sketching. I do this digitally, using a Wacom Bamboo Fun Graphic Tablet (which is now phased out) in Manga Studio 4 EX (MS4EX).
Inking & Applying Flats
Now this step is not used by a lot of artist. Those who are already well experienced skip this step to save time. Myself, however, is not a well experienced artist. I still ink my sketch to make my lines more crisp & clean looking. Flats, so that I can edit a certain part without making changes on other parts that needs no editing. I do my Inks in MS4EX and my flats in Photoshop CS3 (PSCS3).
Painting & Effects
This part is the fun part. But also the longest part. Sometimes halfway through, you'll think of a better way of how the lighting looks more cool if you put it somewhere else, then you scrap all of what you have rendered and start at the beginning. The result is always worth it though. I paint my artworks in Easy Paint Tool SAI (SAI) and add the effects in PSCS3.
Final Product
Here's the finished piece. If I remember correctly, it took 5 days from start to finish.
I hope you found this art process useful. I'll try to post a more detailed tutorial next time. -
Bye for now!
