arabesque ar'ab-esk, adj. after the manner of Arabian designs.
A style of Islamic art featuring interwoven vegetation and geometry, the arabesque is present across Egypt, Syria, Sophia, Spain, France, Germany, China, Mongolia, India and many other places. While each of these places adapts the artform to its local context, symmetry and extricate detail are common across the artform. I find it meditative to look endlessly at the patterns formed on walls, windows, doors and other surfaces and try to unearth the geometry that runs in the veins of the artform.
This particular drawing is based on a window at Agra in India.
