We all believe that helping others can be the source of our happiness. Although this may be true, there is another side of kindness, a bit darker that proves that happiness doesn't always stem from offering kindness throughout our life. To put it differently, being nice to everyone isn't always the road to bliss. There are some points that are always overlooked when it comes to kindness and happiness. In this case let me state some other different faces of always being kind and believing that this will lead you true happiness.
First of all, nice people always believe in offering. Most of the times they offer beyond their own abilities, depriving their own selves and forgetting that they also have needs. Even though they never expect something in return for their kindness, in the long run they understand that receiving something in return is somehow essential. So the fact that they offer without receiving is a pleasure but only for a little while.
Secondly, let's not forget the sacrifices they make during the process of offering. Kind people care a lot for others and this makes them the enemy of themselves. As it is widely known that people who care often suffer from lack of sleep, neglecting their own life and health, just to make others happy. Another dark side of being kind is the expectation of being treated with the same kindness. As time goes by this leads to regrets and unhappiness.
All things considered, being kind and helpful isn't always source for happiness. For the most part it indeed leads to happiness but if we think it from the other side of the coin, we realize that every action has a reaction and where is light there is always a shadow too. I strongly believe that the key to all is to improve our life but also to improve others through our actions.
