Original paintings, 50x70cm, oils on canvas:
Two portrait in the Nevelspoock-series, a strange family from a long lost era thriving in misty memories. Together with friends, I'm currently producing a video-game based on these portraits, in which you can discover the secrets of this family, follow for news, art, music and game footage.
Montague and Rhodes are the sons of Hector James and Virginie Philidor. They were born in 1883 and 1885 respectively, in Flanders, Belgium. Their father, Hector got divorced and remarried Cyrilla Nevelspoock later on, so these two are half brothers of Felix Nevelspoock.
They are depicted with the Flanders' World War uniform.
Feel free to comment what comes to mind when seeing these portraits, and thanks for looking!
Some actual background regarding the portraits, apart from the game of Nevelspoock, which I wanted to share here: the portraits are painted from photos of long lost relatives of mine, which I found in my grandmother's archive. I have no information as to who these men were - only that the photos were there together, that they very likely were taken at the same moment, and that these blokes are very likely family (although I don't know how). What strikes me personally most, though, is the fact that the first guy smiles and looks happy, while the other looks like he's scared to death. War, anybody?
