Painting by Raden Saleh set a new record as a masterpiece of Indonesia's most expensive artwork auctioned in France, last weekend.
The painting sold for 7.2 million euros or an equivalent of about Rp 119.9 billion to an unidentified Indonesian collector.
Jack-Philippe Ruellan auctioneer stated, the auction of painting Hunting Bull (Bull Hunt) by Raden Saleh successfully implemented.
Art critic as well as consultant of the art collection of Presidential Palace Agus Dermawan T also confirmed that this is the highest price for the work of Indonesian artists.
"Several years ago, the works of S Sudjojona, Lee staff Fong, Hendra Gunawan, whose size is larger, sells for Rp 60 billion," said Agus.
The initial price of Raden Saleh's auction is 200,000 euros. Shortly before the auction begins, the price jumps to 1 million euros.
