Zol, 2017 Abstract Series
This individual was triple #blinddrawn (a first time occurrence) in a series of abstract paintings. Each photograph held something captivating that won my attention: textures, perspectives, patterns, etc. While the three pieces contrast each other, they seem to belong together at the same time.
Abstract
The abstract paintings vary in level of detail. In this series I wanted to extract certain elements I thought connected each of the pieces. I generally omit all body parts in the abstract paintings and focus on the fashion, hair, and lips. Those three things can usually stand on their own, though sometimes the background can come into play as a strong component.
First
The first painting features the cement pattern in the background and the small white detailing across her outfit. Her arms are cut out of the painting, hair stroked with a bronze metallic paint, and lips gently brushed in. For an abstract of mine, this involves more complexity than usual.
Second
The second painting captures the softness of the black sheer mesh contrasted with the bold floral-like feathering details of her outfit. I diluted a small amount of pearl metallic into the black mixture to create a subtle sheen (difficult to view in a scan). Her lips are parted to add to the air of allure.
Third
The third painting features the digital-like background, punctuated by the bands of fabric. I used jet black for the dress, bronze metallic for her hair, and topped it off with a fun lip angle to highlight the personality of the piece.
