It's funny how things all come at once and you find yourself posting about similar subjects in a row. I suppose inspiration works in that way! Earlier I posted about a glassblower that I visited in Venice, but my main work today has been editing and sorting a selection of photography that was taken inside a metalworker's workshop in Tokyo, Japan.
This is the small studio of Japanese metalworker Naho Kamada who has the concept of crafting modern pieces of metalwork by hand, hoping to push forward this age old craft but still use the traditional techniques that have been passed down to her from the craftsmen in this field.
Since going indepedent in 2008 she is very respected as a metalworker and is known to choose soft metals and hit these material with precision and a soft action, often choosing wooden tools over harder tools to carry through a subtle sensitivity in to the objects. When you pick them up this care in the making process is translated through to the object and makes you feel a connection with the maker, something that other craftsmen are just not able to convey.
Anyway, I wanted to present a few pictures from this special feature here on Steemit. If you would like to view more I recommend browsing the feature on the link below. 🙂
