Boxes and their secrets
Pandora's box is an artifact from Greek mythology, in the myth Pandora opens a box (which in the original translations was actually a jar) and releases evils and death into the world. When someone starts something that could lead to lots of unforeseen problems we might say they have opened a Pandora's box.
This last couple of week's I've found myself drawing boxes. The first image you can see below, I created it on DADA in response to an image drew in the visual conversation 'timmy got a package'. The second box I have drawn is an illustration for @Dougkarr's novel Dwelling.
Creating an illustration for Chapter Four of Dwelling.
Geraldine's box
The image was sketched out in pencil, then areas were masked off with tape, before applying layers of inks. Textured kitchen roll was laid over the wet inks to soak up some of the ink and leave a pattern from the paper. Finally, details were applied with a dip pen and drawing ink.
Precious things
Morris finished with the lipstick, placing it back inside its crystal Things Remembered case, the engraved letters spelling out Geraldine above the polished silver heart and cubic zirconias.
Morris clicked shut last year’s mother’s day gift. He rolled the cellophane flower cone closer with his shoe.
If you want to find out more about what Morris has been doing then read 's novel Dwelling - Chapter Four.
