A Lucky rose
A couple of days ago I shared with you my ink drawing of a cranesbill, or hardy geranium flower. I decide to go back to that ink drawing and build up the composition further, the beautiful pink blooms of my Lucky Floribunda rose were to irresistible not to put into a painting! The purple geranium flowers sit just to left of this rose in my garden, so they were destined to be the perfect companions in this piece of work.

The original drawing of a geranium flower and leaves. Drawn using black drawing ink and applying it with a dip pen.
I built up the composition further by adding two of the pink roses and a further geranium flower. The foliage in the picture comprises of rose leaves and the stunningly shaped geranium leaves.
I applied watercolours over the completed ink drawing, and pale greens and yellows in the background.
