A portrait
Today, I'm sharing with you a little study drawn in oil pastel titled 'The girl with amber beads'. The figure has an elongated neck and face with curved shoulders, long blue hair cascades down her back. She glances to the side as a figure approaches from behind her, stepping out from the shadows.
The drawing process
A quick pencil sketch first, then layers of oil pastel applied on to the paper. The skin tones are made from a combination of yellow, white and blue oil pastel.
The background is built up with layers of red, pink, blue and black oil pastels. Areas of oil pastel are scraped back to reveal lines of colour beneath the darker layers of pastel.
