Dear Hive Community
In October 2020 I got an opportunity to join a project which let me to create my first shortfilm.
I was interested in dance on screen and art films for a long time and being around my best friend and seeing what she accomplishes all the time always had me wishing one day I'd start producing screen dance and art films as well.
The thing that was always missing was time!
Empire Strikes Back
One Day in late September my friend texted me a call out for a workshop (two hours before the deadline) called "empire Strikes Back", facilitated by a cultural organization called Louder than Words. The workshop was centered around late MC TY (who sadly passed away from COVID); and his creative principles (TY-isms).
When I saw the opportunity I jumped at it as I work OK by myself, but I achieve so much more when there is some pressure. Also, the timing was perfect since there were no live performances happening in London, which they still aren't. Our task was to come up with an artwork related to the British Empire and inspired by TY's principles.
I decided to focus on TY's "Search for Sound" and "Let the Artwork Lead you" and created a short film where I layered several images, film, and sound. I made the soundtrack myself exclusively using Tap Dance and my voice to capture the sound. I will explain this process in more detail in a later post. The film is called "Depth Perception" and is inspired by the movement of people, and the layer each culture brings to society.
The Tate Lates Online
I am so excited that our films were chosen to be streamed at the Tate Lates. Due to COVID regulations, this happened online, but nevertheless I am very proud of myself. Not bad for a first attempt at making a film.
This is the link to the tate event from December 2020

Here you can see the film on youtube. If you are a member on youtube it would be great if you could like, comment and subscribe, since activity really helps out to getting your videos seen!
Online Zine
the ESB online Zine is live, and the print zine will be released in May, however, there will be a limited print edition and it will be donated to different arts organizations, not for sale. I will let you know more in the blog when it gets released.
Thank you for being part of my journey!
