The classic story of the classic VW car. The actual car designer is still controversial, because although officially Ferdinand Porsche was the designer, in the 1920s, Joseph Ganz had designed a similar car. The car is smaller and cheaper, but the car manufacturers are not interested, it is two motorcycle manufacturers are interested. Adler produces Maikäfer, and the Standard produces Superior, and campaigns in advertising as 'Der Deutsche Volkswagen' (German folk car).
When the Nazis came to power, they liked Superior, but not long afterwards, Joseph Ganz was put in jail. (He then fled to Switzerland). The possible reason for Ganz's imprisonment was because the Nazis knew he was Jewish. The Nazi government then approached Porsche, who designed a prototype car similar to Superior, called Käfer. According to Volkswagen, not only Ganz who has designed a car with a similar design, and Käfer itself is not designed based on Ganz design.
