OK this is a long story. So when I was going to school (11 years ago). Me and my friends where trying to make a Warhammer video game mod. Back then we where totally into Games Workshop. I did character design, 3d modeling, and texturing. But the Total Warhammer Mod beat us to the punch. That is what the Warhammer models on my first blogs where originally for. But instead of just throwing all that hard work away I used them for my Final Project. The final project was to create a Demo Reel to apply to a resume in anticipation of starting a career.
I never did get a job in game design, believe me it wasn't from lack of trying. I must have applied to every game developer who was big back then. But after about five years of trying and no replies I just gave up. Back then it was just to hard to get noticed coming from a small school and a city that didn't have any game design. You had to live in a city like New York or LA or San Francisco to do something like design games. So most of us moved on to IT careers, things like system administration, system programming and server build. (Computer Repair)
I don't regret going to school to learn how to create games, because I did learn a lot. I just couldn't feed or support a family with it. When I was growing up I always wanted to draw cartoons and comics, going to school helped me to learn how to use 3d programs and how to layout concepts. Like I said that was 11 years ago and these things have changed over time too.
For all you kids out there who want to do something like this, that's great do it! But even if you don't get a job doing it, don't stop doing what you love! (I didn't.) I guess what I'm trying to say is, do it because you love it not because its a cool job.
This is that final demo reel.
