Greetings to all steemians, today I bring for you Engravings, Engraving is an artistic discipline in which the artist uses different printing techniques, which have in common to draw an image on a rigid surface , called a matrix, leaving a trace that will later house ink and be transferred by pressure to another surface such as paper or cloth, which allows obtaining several reproductions of the stamps.
This is one of those techniques in art that you end up loving for a lifetime, despite their hard work, if you do it with patience and sufficient care you will get great results, if you remember 2 years ago months to be exact was my last post in this series, which deals with the problem in terms of the exploitation of the land and the cause and effect it has on each face immersed in this activity or execution, well here I bring the publication that ends up reinforcing this series because I did Painting, Sculpture, Drawings and at this moment I present The Engraving.
I start by telling you that this work took me at least 2 months to do it because to get good results you must investigate from history, materials, tools, to the execution of the creative process step by step because the technique that works is called reductive method or lost taco, this is a method of xylographic work to obtain stamps in various colors. Is to go carving or better technically roughing a single block or sheet of wood in several phases, printing each one in a different color and then reducing the surface in relief, until it is almost completely eliminated.
This is the matrix was worked on both sides to get more colors apply 6 colors to be exact.
The wood is plywood, it was cut with gouges, it is a bit long process but my personal recommendation is that there must be a connection with the wood and the gouges because it is to direct the tool and take advantage of the betas of the wood to be able to obtain graphic qualities.
here you can see part of the roughing.
After having the matrix already trimmed, we proceed to the preparation of the inks, but attentive after you have already done the separation of colors and you have defined where each one of them proceeds to prepare the ideal shade of color for Then we can heat the ink and make it less dense.
this is the ideal density.
Already having the ink ready, we proceed to print the base color and work from the light to the dark to make a more defined closure and thus give more strength to the graphic that is what is sought. Something important that I want to emphasize is that it applies a technique called Chine-collé: it is a special technique in engraving, in which the image is transferred to a surface that is joined to a heavier support in the printing process. One purpose is to allow the printer to print on a much more delicate surface, such as Japanese paper or linen, which extracts finer details from the plate. Another objective is to provide a background color behind the image that is different from the surrounding backing sheet.
Paper is very important, according to its weight, the more grammage, the more cotton the chine-collé will have much better results.
Here, tear the tissue paper and then glue them, paper on paper, it is advisable to work on a light table to have the guide of the base drawing.
PRESS
after making the chine-collé it is important to let the paper dry well, and when it is dry we proceed to inking the matrix.
This roller is large and covers much of the matrix is much easier to work with a large roller if the format suggests, here I show how to ink with a small roller areas where ink did not enter.
see how the matrix is worn according to each color.
these were the first colors.
then I was superimposing the other colors.
And well my people after all the creative process that takes this job, fill with ink, smell chemicals can not take great pictures of step by step because time is not in your favor here is the end result of this magnificent experience .
I hope you have enjoyed this work in which I invested a lot of time, but that it was really worth every second in the workshop working, I will continue to show quality content for all the steemit platform artists, good vibes and continue to be filled with art
