Harpers Galleria: What is your relationship with the subjects of your paintings?
AYOGU: They’re my muse.
Harpers Galleria: How do you select individuals to be your muse?
AYOGU: The people I paint I interact with all the time. So, I find out they know what I want even before I mention it, so it’s like they’re my soulmate!
Harpers Galleria: That’s amazing! In other words, your work tends to be very personal to you because you have a special bond with all the people you paint.
What message would you like your paintings to have with viewers?
AYOGU: Hope! And love for self, and freedom from religion and society.
