Hi it's me Rachelle, I am a self taught aspiring artist, musician, singer and loves to cook too. Right now I engaged myself to arts so I can make a living even at home. I find drawing like a stress reliever and very relaxing though for a newbie like me, drawing are not easy.
For today art blog, let me share my first time drawing a teeth. Yes you heard it right this is my first time to draw an actual portrait including teeth. I was kinda hesitant and wanted to skip this photo but my sister didn't have any decent photo to be my reference. I chose this one cause she looks fresh and her face can be seen clearly though I used photo enhancer just for more acurate look.
Meanwhile while doing the grid lines, I struggle to have a straight line that's why I knew that this might lead into bad drawing. The pencil that I used to draw the grid lines are quite darker and aside from that my paper size were just 6x9 inches. That's too small for a regular portrait size of A4. Still I made it and here's what I did.
Usually I draw the face shape before doing the eyes unlike many artist did if first. I was more comfortable and see if the eye will balance to the face shape. I learned to do this before using grid method.
Once I finished the entire sketch of the face, I strarted to shade and blend the tone value of the drawing. I used a smoother paper but didn't meet the standard 120 gsm for a good paper.
I also used some make up brushes and blending stump to help my blending look good and gives me the volume that I wanted. I am still learning the right way on blending a natural shade of the skin based on reference.
To be honest, one of my weakness in drawing portrait was the hair, lips and teeth. When I am on a break of drawing some portraits, I tried to practice drawing hair and I will share it too one of these days. The tonal value, contrast, and how dark will be the skin tone of the reference was not easy to learn immediately.
As I look back on my previous practice of drawing portrait, they look like toasted skin tone lol :) Admiting my own weaknesses and trying to improve it overtime makes me more passionate and patience on myself.
I have said a lot again sorry, so here's my finished drawing of my sister. She requested that she wanted to look slimmer so I don't draw her double chin and that's the good thing about drawing. You can edit your reference according to your costumer's request. It takes time and more practice to create my drawing more realistic and close enough to my reference.
I salute all the artist around the world! Celebrate your talent and be thankful that you have that skills on your hand. Though our talents had been neglected by many, our fruit of labor will begin in us by doing it with a passionate attitude. Thanks for reading my story today and keep safe everyone! Gracias❤
