Today I will share some of my recent drawing using my free hand. They say that drawing with free hand really helps me to improve my ability on copying my chosen reference.
I admit that making portrait gives me a wide experience in drawing. In fact I become more braver to explore and draw difficult reference which I always looked for easier reference. I am talking about the teeth and hair details. When I am trying to draw that part I am starting to doubt myself if I can make it right.
Having a sketchbook also helps me to instantly draw any reference anytime and anywhere. Though this paper was rough, I think with 100 pages I can make many drawing in the future. As much as possible I draw atleast once a day but sometimes in one seating I can draw 2-3 drawings. I don't want my hands to feel tired and forced to do drawings if my body and mind was not in peace.
To be honest I love silent environment. Loud voices and loud music and kids shouting around was so annoying. I lived in that kind of environment so it is a real struggle to find the perfect time when I can draw with quite ambiance. But today I'm gonna share few drawing on my sketchbook and you can freely criticized and suggest any improvements that I needed.
As you may see on the first and second photo, I chose a huge size of drawing so that I can add more details but as I smudge the paper over and over, the paper can't take that pressure. My paper just got 100 gsm so it was obviously didn't meet the standard of 120 gsm. Aside from that the roughness of the paper can give me a smooth texture finished.
I decided to draw long hair with pony tail which I guess it's quite good. I really tried to make it decently realistic, do hair details as much as possible. Hair was fun to do but it will take you a lot of time to finish the drawing especially for long hair, beard and mustache.
This one was my free hand drawing supposed to be an anime but didn't look too cartoonized. I chose her hair to have lighter shades for me too add the tone and value that I wanted. Aside from that I add a little vandana on top of her hair and a mole on her right eye. I do also apply some tonal value using make up brush but this time I learned that I should be carefull on applying too much force on the brush.
Drawing like this can be a better option if I don't have a more peaceful place. I can't hide at any place but still I stay on my room. Simple drawing didn't mean it is easier to do but keeping keen details and making my drawing as part of my journey is a great way of getting back where I started.
Hope you could find time to read my sketch blog today. Gracias! ❤
