Many years ago, I was invited to a topping out ceremony in southern Germany, close to the Bavarian alps. It was a nice gathering, people brought presents and while everyone was waiting for the barbecue to start, the mayor of the village was getting ready to hold his speach. He looked just like one would imagine a typical Bavarian of that area, with his Lederhosen, typical jacket and the gamsbart on his hat. His belly showed years of training with excessive intake of heavy sausage, meats and knodel as well as lots of fine Bavarian beer.
He had just started speaking, when some other guest brought in another present.. a copy of a Paul Delvaux painting, with a group of virgin like naked girls. Totally threw the mayor off the tracks!! He pretty much forgot all about his speech and all of his attention was caught by the painting... funniest speech ever, he could not finish another sentence without coming back to it!
Gave me the idea for "Unternehmen Elfenbein"...
The German title is a play on words and can thus not be translated. But I think the idea is quite clear. Hope the mountain in the background is safe enough for work. The pattern in the sky is that, typical of the Bavarian flag, for a geographical reference.
This is a painting from my early days and unfortunately I don't have a better photo.
Hope you like it anyways!
