"Water" was the given theme for a group show in France a couple of years ago. For that I created the painting "The Source" in my special Hinterglas technique, combining elements I associate with water, as well as beauty. Life is the most beautiful miracle to me and they say, there is no life without water.
I was very much into strange creatures at the time and so it was clear, that one of those had to be in the painting. I usually draw all the elements on paper first, like this mechanical lobster:
The next step is to make the pencil drawing on glass and to have that sit on a gray surface helps with adding a few first highlights
Next I airbrushed in an even layer of a blue-ish tone in acrylics and erased the lighter areas
Now adding highlights to the stream of water coming from a glass bowl. Those to elements were the most challenging to accomplish in this technique.
At the same time, I added a first layer of watercolor
Slowly more and more colors are added
Here a detail of the roses, as a symbol of beauty
After many more layers of different colors, it finally looks like this
