"The future looks bright..."
This is an invitation for all Artists of Steemit!
Everyday I see such artistic talent cross my feed and I crave some kind of project that can bring us together. Towards this end I propose that the artists, photographers, painters, illustrators, graphic designers, and doodlers of Steemit come together and work our way through the Tarot!
Uh, what is the Tarot?
The tarot is an ancient system of divination in the form of 78 playing cards. Although associated with magic and telling the future, these cards are symbolic representations of archetypes and themes of humans and their journey through life. Anyone, of any path can take joy and draw stories from these primal myths and relationship symbolized within the deck!
The deck is broken up into 22 or 23 cards that represent symbolic themes and aspects. These are cards like; The Fool, The Magician, Death, The Lovers, Strength, and the Moon. Each is rife with symbolism and a potential gold-mine for the creative type to express eternal truths in their own unique style!
I propose we first focus our creative talents on these!
The rest of the deck consists of 16 court cards (Kings, Queens, Prices and Princesses, of each suit, often are used as characters in the narrative, and can represent different qualities of people) and numbered cards, like you'd find in any deck of playing cards.
Invitation and Brainstorming!
It would be wonderful to have pick a card each week (or two!) and allow everyone who'd like to participate to submit a submission for a contest of sorts. I would LOVE to see everyone's personal style and interpretation of each card.
Alternatively, each artist could pick a card or cards that resonate with them until we've worked our way through the first 22!
The Destination
Tarot is often symbolic of a personal journey. Our journey would take us through a shared experience of creating art and comparing our interpretation of the themes. At the end? I see the possibility to have it printed to celebrate our collaboration and profit! These dreams are still nebulous and I'd love to hear your feedback!
My previous work
The art I've included in this post is my own. I started my personal deck in 2005, and it has been a labour of love ever since. My art style has evolved considerably and now I'm more attracted to traditional rather than digital mediums. I look forward to throwing a new creation into the ring with you each week (or two!).
The dreamer, the fool. The start of any journey is a leap of faith into the unknown. The dreamer, she dreams of big things. The fool dancing on the cliffs edge is homage to my great-great grandfather's Tarot Deck.
Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor stars as my Magician. Formative to my love of science fiction and all things British, Doctor Who takes his companions on a journey that is sometimes chaotic, but he always has the magic words, or special artifact, or inner strength to save the day!
The priestess stands before an open window looking out into creation. She offers us a silent invitation into other realms, an inner landscape.
