Hey folks! This is a bit of an odd one. There is an artist who I follow on Instagram, and they have asked me a few times where they can buy original art from me....
Ummm.... Nowhere? I sell print on demand stuff and crypto-art and some prints online, but since the MATTER! Gallery in Olympia, Washington, closed, I haven't bothered trying to find other representation. I sell a few original pieces out of my yard during our summer yard-art shindigs, but... Really, I had no info to give this person.
After they'd asked me a few different times how they could get my original art, I finally just told them to let me know which piece they liked, and I said I would mail it to them! (No charge... I'm a shitty businessman...)
They decided they wanted my Xmas Tree piece... Fine! Great!
Except, that drawing is only about a half an inch by about an inch in size, and I drew it in the margins of my current notebook... Well...
Great!
I cut the drawing out of my notebook, and then glued it to a piece of cardboard with a little note written on it:
Hi! This is the actual, original drawing I used to create my 2019 Digital Xmas Tree. I cut it out of my notebook for you! Ha!! Hope it's not too tiny! I like to work small sometimes! ---YR
(With the "YR" mirrored, of course.)
Just so this artist wasn't too disappointed with their package, I went to the print shop and made some color copies on 65 pound cardstock of the pre-colored and finished images, as well, to go with the tiny original. I think it's funny, personally!
But, problem solved! This person wanted original art, and I provided it! (Now, if I could just find a way to make some MONEY doing this kind of thing, I'd be SET!!! Ha!)
Have you ever had an unconventional art experience??? If so, feel free to share it in the comments below! Woooo!
