Glenorchy, New Zealand is surrounded by high mountains and has a lot of amazing views. It is also one of my favourite spots for painting outdoors (en plein air).
On this particular day there was intermittent cloud which made some amazing light effects on the mountains. I decided I would paint Mt Alaska and capture the light in my painting.
Below are some of the photos I took on that day.
There was a contrast between light and dark values which I thought would look interesting in a painting.
Dramatic clouds, the mountains create their own microclimate.
This was the view of Mt Alaska that I decided to paint.
This is the painting, painted outdoors on location.
Mt Alaska, 10" x 12", oil on canvas, painted en plein air.
I hope you like my photos and art, I have more paintings on my website: samuelearp.com
