Hi Steemians,
Happy Friday to all ! Today I'd like to share the Hilbert Museum of California Art at Chapman University.
This museum was in dedication to the great California artist such as Andrew Loomis, Rick Griffin, John Severson to name a few.
1969 Pacific Vibrations by Rick Griffin
The different styles are all beautifully unique.
This one caught my eyes :)
Bradford J. Salamon (1963), is a California painter who specializes in oil-on-canvas portrayals. (above).
What ?? Me Worry ??
From the artist above. Mad Magazine was so great at making us laugh and seeing the irony of our behavior.
The artist above decided to go to the famous fast food place call In-n-Out. He became inspired and this was the result. (above).
Another popular subject amongst these artists is landmarks.
Can you guess the locations?
What about this other one ...?
I will give you a hint on this one...Los Angeles. hehe.
This artist is from Stanton California. Jeru, is the name of the painting.
"Jeru" was first recorded when saxophonist Gerry Mulligan wrote the tune and played it on the groundbreaking record titled Birth of the Cool.
Mulligan is considered one of the great baritone saxophonists and was a key contributor to the West Coast Jazz movement in the 1950s and 1960s.
The artists in this exhibition presented an idealized look at American childhood from 1920s through the 1960s.
The world they depicted was mostly one the magazine art directors and advertisers wished to show. Such as...
Happy..safe..protected for the middle class rural and suburban life.
Andrew Loomis (1892-1959) created many a charming illustration like this one (below).
This museum is an absolute delight. A great change of pace from the contemporary or installation art that seem to be the dominant trends right now. Already looking forward to my next visit!
There's all tyes of styles.
If you're ever in the area this is a spot to check out. Free admission and plenty of places near by to grab a bite.
Let all you do be done in love, ❣️
