I did an image search that brought up treasure chests and that inspired me to try The Luggage from Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. This is the first of the series.
Here's the cover I copied it from.
The luggage is a chest made of sapient pearwood which has a mind of its own and is very protective of its owner Twoflower who is coming down the stairs. You may just be able to see he has too many eyes. This was due to the artists Josh Kidby mis-interpreting the reference in the book to him having 'four eyes' when it actually meant he wore glasses.
It is a great book that I ought to read again some time.
