I recently moved to a new apartment. After several years of living with roommates, I now have a place to myself that's a bit bigger than where I was before, and it's been a joy (and a lot of work!) to arrange things according to my own tastes. A large part of that has been finally buying, framing, and hanging beloved pictures on my walls, as well as putting up some I've made myself and which were just put away out of sight until now.
So I'd like to invite you to join me for a walk-through of my new home and the artwork that adorns it!
Entryway
First on the agenda is a long-overdue promise to to take an "ussie" of the digital painting I saw and fell in love with here on Hive and subsequently bought from her. I give you Crystal Queen:
This photo doesn't really do it credit, but you can see the originals here. I'd really recommend following Deeann if you haven't already. She's a talented fractal artist and a very prolific story writer!
On the other wall of the entryway, I have a set of nine black and white Art Deco style geometric pictures. I got the basic outlines from a mandala coloring book and doodled them in with a black ink pen on many a pleasant evening. They're framed in alternating black and white Ikea frames--I think I was inspired a little bit by The Queen's Gambit. :)
And finally, here's a charcoal tribute I did to the poster of the movie The Spirit. I enjoyed this movie so much when it came out and I can't believe it didn't become a cult classic. It's really funny! I would highly recommend watching it if you haven't yet. I've got charcoal drawings for sale here
Living Room
Moving into the living room, the main piece is a painting called Fjordhest by Sieskja, an artist whose work I discovered on Pinterest. I knew that I wanted to own some of her art, and turns out one of my favorites happened to match my new couch. :) You can check out more of Sieskja's work here.
On either side I've got a piece I did in colored pencil of my office, à la Pam Beesly, and a pair of minimalist paintings by Michel Canetti that I saved from a calendar because I liked them so much.
On the opposite wall I have a lot of space to store my own art supplies!
Hallway
In the hallway I've got two pictures. The first is by Maria Dimova, an artist I discovered on Instagram. I really love Maria's work and this one, Blue Bellflowers, has been one of my favorites for a long time.
I'm so amazed at the talent that can be enjoyed at the tap of a finger these days, but sometimes you want to own it so you can enjoy it every day.
The other is a vintage engraving that I bought at a thrift store in Germany, of Hohentwiel Castle. I colored it in myself with colored pencils.
These are hung between the doors, but there's still a whole white wall waiting for more! I'm scheming how to utilize it. ;)
Bathroom
In the bathroom I hung another Art Deco pattern I did in marker, but I regret a little that I framed it in black. I'm thinking about changing the frame to white. What do you think?
Kitchen
In the kitchen I've just got some favorite postcards on the fridge, from Mexico, Prague, and my home state Ohio.
Spare Room
Next we come to the spare room, which I've decorated mostly with my own work. First we have a cluster of colorful pictures, two Art Deco and one Mandala, embellished with glitter. I don't care if it's tacky, I like glitter!
And here's a dollhouse that I've been working on for ages. It all started when I decided to use some scraps of wood to make mini furniture, and then needed a place to put it. It's still a work in progress, but I've been taking a break on it for a while. Above it you can see another picture I bought from an Instagram artist, artfusion, and a shell and bead garland I made.
Then I've got this set of epoxy tiles that I made and wrote about previously:
On the windows are some paper stars I folded.
And finally, the quilt I made during quarantine:
And lastly we come to my bedroom. I only have one picture up so far, Ecstasy by Maxwell Parrish. Although he's not a contemporary artist, I also became familiar with his work on Pinterest. I love his paintings because they are full of the sense of joy you feel when you spend time in nature. And there's another shell and bead garland I made. :)
So that's my home. :) I hope you like it as much as I do! Come by and see me sometime. And tag me if you share the art in your home!
