This week's kaleidoscope goes way back to the beginning of my scope making days. If you have followed this series you may still spot some stylistic consistency regardless of the variety of materials. In this case we have a soapstone sculptural base that is carved and drilled to hold the brass tube of the kaleidoscope barrel, as well as the wheels that are stored in little pockets. The wheels are each constructed of two very thin pieces of clear glass which sandwhich various interesting flat, coloured, textured items. These are mostly taken from nature. I included petals and wings and leaves from various sources. Each wheel sandwhich was soldered into a recycled Indian glass bangle.
What I could not include in this post was the little brass oil lamp that I converted with an LED bulb. It sits in front of the barrel and you turn it on to set your view ablaze as you look through the eyepiece. Oh well! You guys will fill in the blanks with your imaginations!
