"Lottie"
It has been 5 years this week since I made my last name keepsake for a baby shower gift. This keepsake was for a little girl who would be named Charlotte. It was only two more months before she would be born and they already decided her nickname was going to be "Lottie."
Her grandparents and parents were very outdoors-oriented and I knew that she would be a nature lover too! Thus the nature theme came easily for this little one's gift.
Creating a keepsake
I first began sketching out the name to fit within the canvas evenly being careful to make sure it would be centered. From there I had to decide what I could create around each letter in the child's name. This can be a challenge sometimes depending on what type of theme I choose.
After drawing the outlines of my objects lightly in pencil, I begin to use watercolor pencils as the first step to coloring it in. When I am totally satisfied with how it looks, I then blended lightly with a tiny bit of water and a paintbrush to give the areas shading and contrasting hues. The last step was putting on a few touches with a fine point are pen to make some of the outlines pop a little more.
When the piece was totally dry I then was able to mount the print in the appropriate frame. I chose white due to the fact that it was for a baby that could go with any color they chose for a nursery.
Lottie arrives
Isn't she the sweetest little thing? We were so excited to meet her and her parents adored the special gift that I had created for her. I am so happy how the picture came out, and my favorite part was how I thought to make the t's in her name into a garden trellis. Overall the nature scene came together and the colors actually coordinated with her bedroom colors too! ;-)

Turning 4
Time has flown by so quickly and I get to see her every week at her grandmother's playing in the yard. She loves collecting bugs with her brother or digging in the dirt while helping grandma plant flowers. This summer she will be turning 4 already. She sure had turned out to be such a cuttie-pie with the sweetest spirit. And, to top it off, she is a nature lover after all!
