I have a few commissions that I need to finish before we travel. The dog portraits are 12" x 12" on stretched canvas and I do them in oils. Today I am using a limited palette of burnt sienna, yellow ochre, naples yellow, cobalt blue and Permalba white. I had previously painted the clients other dog portrait and used a red background so I followed suit with this one also.

I block in quickly and then...
I turn the painting upside down so I can re draw my perspective lines. Turning something upside down fools your brain and cancels out "DOG" . You can try it with any picture and see what happens when you just draw what you see instead of what it is.
A little more correction and finally I reach a point where I can stop this one for the day, have lunch and start another project.
So tomorrow join me again and hopefully you will see the finished portrait.
