Completed another pet portrait for a friend of my fathers recently. I took pictures of the process so I could share it here. My last picture was a bit better I think; but I still feel I am progressing with watercolors.
Here is the picture my dad sent me to approximate for his friend. Truffie looks like a such a cutie.
I started in with watercolor pencil and outlined where every bit of Truffie would be.
Then I washed him in with water, and the immediate results are ugly as usual. I wonder if I might change this tactic next time. A dryer brush perhaps; or going right in with watercolor?
Then I started on the floor. I am being critical of myself; I know some warping is normal but I think I should be more minimalist with huge washes of color in the future.
Next I added in the darker areas.
Then added details.

Then I looked closer at the computer image (I had printed out an image) to fill in details I had missed.
I need to practice more with doggies before I do my next portrait. It has been fun though.
