I got in a good warm-up earlier today with my newest goldfish studies but I was actually surprised when this little guy appeared out of nowhere. I was left alone (here at ) for a short period of time and I tried to redraw an old image but failed. I couldn’t get it right, maybe the heat of the the building was getting to me. It’s much cooler now since someone propped open the backdrop. Thanks to whoever did that, this squirrel’s dedicated to that kind stranger.
The funniest thing to see in the fall are super plump squirrels who have packed on a lot of weight before winter. I remember spotting one perched on a power line and it seemed to dip down from it’s weight.
This drawing started off as a doodle before I committed to it being a 20 minute sketch, then a 30 minute sketch...and then I finally settled on it being a quick colored study.
Here’s a quick look at how the sketch started. I thought about giving this a cute animated appearance by drawing it with large eyes but then changed it. I prefer a somewhat realistic feel.
The outline sketch was completed within a 20 minute timeframe. I’m thinking about doing a sketch and having other Steemians color it. Both and
have done it and it looked like a lot of fun! Seems like I’m always coming up with contest ideas but I’m never able to participate. 😅
I added a wash of color to the background so highlights would pop once they were sketched in.
Doing these quick studies are fun but I’m thinking about spending more time on coloring. This thought came to me after seeing a beautiful digital painting from which was really inspiring. Be sure to give
a follow if you aren’t following already!
I’m satisfied with what I was able to do in an hour.
