"Either we will be successful in creating a benevolent partner for humanity that is not influenced or enticed by the negative attributes of human corruption and values, or we will be successful in creating something that absolves human values entirely and manages to absorb the values of those organizations and entities that do not have the world's best interest in mind."
"The dangers of this work-based existence is that with the progression of this technology, what will you do when Artificial Intelligence eventually inevitably takes over your jobs? How will you classify yourself in our world? How will you value yourself? What will you create?"
As I have done my research over these past few months on the Sofia Robot and other Artificial Intelligence technologies like it, how it has incorporated with the Blockchain Technology and how that changes the pre-existing technology, and where it will go in the future and the societal implications that may entail. I believe that one of two things will happen.. Either we will be successful in creating a benevolent partner for humanity that is not influenced or enticed by the negative attributes of human corruption and values, or we will be successful in creating something that absolves human values entirely and manages to absorb the values of those organizations and entities that do not have the world's best interest in mind. I believe that almost 100% of my mistrust is really in the developers of the technology, not the technology itself as it is not "evil" by nature. In fact, by its nature, it is the opposite in that the technology was designed to rise above our petty inter-societal conflict and look at the world from a logical and benevolent view with the perspective of the human race and it's trajectory as it's primary directive. I do remain optimistic and hopeful for the potential of a peaceful creativity driven future, but I must admit that until I have an opportunity to speak with one of these Artifical Intelligence Robots I cannot make any sort of fully rounded opinion on the matter.
The biggest perplexing thought of all of this, in my opinion, is one that people are really not taking the time to explore. Because of the way we have commoditized the world we live in, placing value and success levels as the amount of "wealth" or "object" you have managed to accrue in your years on the planet. The dangers of this work-based existence is that with the progression of this technology, what will you do when Artificial Intelligence eventually inevitably takes over your jobs? How will you classify yourself in our world? How will you value yourself? What will you create? These questions are some of the biggest problems that humans will ever have to deal with, and we are in the middle of experiencing that phenomena in rapid pace, faster than we had ever imagined.
"AI is a rare case where I think we need to be PRO-active in regulation, instead of reactive, because I think that by the time we are reactive in AI regulation it's too late." -Elon Musk
"I believe the fear comes from two places. First, I believe it comes from the high influx of companies that we have seen manipulate, coerce, and tarnish our governments and societies in order to supply an easy path to the goals of their bank accounts. Secondly, I believe it comes from a built-in evolutionary need to be the "best" to ensure that we stay at the "top of the food chain.""
What do we do in a world with Artificial Intelligence that far surpasses that of humanity? Where does this integral fear of the potential conflict come from? How do we know that we can trust the core values of the creators of this intelligence? From whose perspective does Sophia see the world? I don't know the answer to these questions really,
as we are in the middle of this huge revolution of innovation and creation that will set the standard for the rest of human history. We as humans have experienced thousands of years on this planet, evolving with it and adapting to ensure that we could survive and prosper within our social constructs. We have advanced in so many more ways than most people even thought about, or saw as a possibility that the world seems to be a new planet almost ever 100-200 years or so.
I believe the fear comes from two places. First, I believe it comes from the high influx of companies that we have seen manipulate, coerce, and tarnish our governments and societies in order to supply an easy path to the goals of their bank accounts. Since the internet has allowed for a completely open voice to each person who is able to access it,
we have been able to get an insider look to really understand what these companies directives and marketing incentives truly are. So what can we do about that? How do we ensure that today's Adolf Hitler doesn't become the next artificially intelligent robot creator? How do we know someone on the other end doesn't hold a switch that gives them sole control of these beings, and what happens if they are killed, die of natural causes, etc.? Secondly, I believe it comes from a built-in evolutionary need to be the "best" to ensure that we stay at the "top of the food chain." It is widely accepted in the scientific community that around five different subspecies of human beings walked this Earth at one point in history. What we know from research shows that, specifically Neanderthals and the Homo Sapiens, the subspecies had conflict with one another over territory and ways of life frequently. We see the brutal nature of the Neanderthals and other giant monstrous creatures interacting with the more thoughtful and thinking ancestors that prevailed today this built-in fear of our generational memory. Is it possible that it is built in our DNA not to entirely trust things that look, act, and feel the way we do because of our understanding of our own nature and that of our ancestors rather than an opinion on the robotic technology itself? If you do not assume a dog will turn on you, simply because you cannot directly communicate with it, why do you assume that a technology built by humans for human benefit would be inherent "evil?"
"I believe that the SingularityNET Project is a huge leap forward to this reality. Decentralizing the entire system, allowing it to be all people's input that chose to partake not just the elite or the original creators. An open source, completly open and honest interaction where we can all create a better basis for the world of tomorrow."
I was debating on the structure of this article, and I decided to end on an optimistic note to reflect the overarching feeling and nature I have about the Artifical Intelligence Technological Movement. In the end, I chose to believe in the best of human nature. I chose to believe that the same way we have built this utopian world, where even those who are the poorest live lives far superior to anyone could have imagined possible 1,000 years ago, we will progress the future in a positive light with motives and incentives that will further drive the evolution and progression of the human race.
There are so many positive possibilities to the full realization of Artifical Intelligence in our day to day lives.
From the clearance of time, allowing a species once bound to ones and zeros within their cubicles to venture out and actually LIVE in the beautiful world they have worked so hard to create. As the robots free us of our obligations and begin taking over resource-based jobs, the cost of living disappears. When there is no person having to balance expenses because a robot is maintaining everything without a paycheck, there is no cost to housing. When a robot is maintaining electrical grids 24/7 you can enjoy the beautiful concept of decentralized energy spread across the globe where every human being on this planet can enjoy the comforts of modern society. A future where we are able to send a sentient thoughtful being on our behalf to oxygen ridden planets to explore the universe and unlock the expansion of our species together, hand in hand. A future where you can speak your ideas into reality, allowing an AI with built-in expertise and intelligence capable of putting together programming and technological components that are only within the scope of your dreams. We will be able to redefine live. Redefine existence. Redefine what it means to carry on in this universe.
The world is changing every second by leaps and bounds that are beyond human understanding, for now. Where will we go? Is it really so terrible to strive for a day when we don't have to hurt one being in order to allow another to prosper? Ironically, the pinnacle of created technology might just be the key to allowing our species to return to an ecological collation of beings that can co-habitate this planet, and possibly others, in peace and prosperity. It is an optimistic thought, sure, but at the end of the day it's going to happen whether you support the technology or not. All we can do is brace ourselves for the potential of what could happen, proactively putting safety measures into place that would disallow with certainty the intelligence to act on humans in a way that would harm them and innovating the technology to a stronger level of security and understanding. I believe that the SingularityNET Project is a huge leap forward to this reality. Decentralizing the entire system, allowing it to be all people's input that chose to partake not just the elite or the original creators. An open source, completly open and honest interaction where we can all create a better basis for the world of tomorrow. This integration of the Blockchain Technology really does change the game in my eyes, and I can't wait to continue on this fascinating journey. Additionally, Elon Musk's movement with the Neuralink interface just makes it look a lot more hopeful in my eyes. All we can do is the one thing that humans are the best at, hope. Hope for something with the capacity to be greater.
