Hey everyone, these little pop up flea markets are becoming more and more common in South Africa I assume due to the high unemployment rate, it is really rather nice to see.
The originality and craftmanship in these 'works of art' are rather good indeed. This is a traditional Xhosa African necklace, you can read more about the history and people as per wikipedia here.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xhosa_people#Xhosa_beadwork
Years ago in the age of Shaka Zulu (an infamous ZULU warrior who ruled with an Iron Fist more on him here as per wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaka) Animal Skins where used to make Shoes, to this day that tradition still exists.
Woven and beaded purses and wallets are a plenty.
The Western influence and 'not so traditional' or pure animal skin shoes except that they are made in South Africa and not China :)
More traditional beaded necklaces very popular among the local Xhosa, Zulu and Ndebele people in South Africa, naturally all hand crafted!
A nice woven handbag. I have always wondered about the export market for products such as these would there be any interest from abroad do you think? America or Europe?
Trust you have an incredible week.
Cheer$;)
