Should I apologize for my English deficiency?
If I have to speak in English in public, should I first apologize for my English deficiency? "Sir or madam, first I would like to tell you that my English is not good and I apologize for that. If I make any mistakes, please forgive me." Yeah, if you apologize someone for having poor English, your first impression is gone showing that you have no confidence in yourself. If you think your language skills are not so good, why don't you prepare yourself in advance? If you read English books like magazines, journals etc., one hour a day, you will see that your English be improved pretty soon. Going back to the main topic, I don't think we have to apologize for our English deficiency. Because native speakers like Americans can understand that English is not our first language and we will make mistakes. They don't really care about that. What they really care about is that you have to know what you are doing. For example, if you are a tourist guide, you are expected to be fluent in English, able to answer their questions and attend their needs. If your English is poor, how could you be a tourist guide? But you can be a computer programmer because English fluency is not a must in many technology fields. Happy thingyan, happy new year and stay safe. Stay out of trouble too.
