We receive a lot of questions about the Emergency Contraceptive pill, so we wanted to offer you more details about the recommended usage of the EC. In the event of an unprotected sexual intercourse, the EC will help protect against an unwanted pregnancy if taken within 120 hours (5 days) from the unprotected sex. Remember that the sooner you take it the higher the chances of protection. Unlike other contraceptive methods, the EC is only for 1 time use; this means that, once taken, it will only protect you for that one time. Also, because the amount of hormones in the EC pill is much higher than the regular OCP, it is not recommended to take the EC as a regular contraceptive, but opt for the daily pill or another method that’s more suitable for you.
Don’t forget, the EC is not a long term contraceptive, and it only works 1 time.
