By now this is all over the news, and according to what kool aid you prefer, you are either ecstatic and excited, or like me you are quite upset with this whole sham. I mean, let's be honest about this, this is nothing more than the truth coming out, and the truth is very, very ugly.
No one is above the law?
This phrase irritates me so much, it makes me want to punch my laptop. What? How dare the politicians who make up these rules say something so demonstrably false. How many times have we seen politicians violate the rule of law, only to get away with it unscathed? The truth is this statement that is supposed to give us this notion that the world is fair, is nothing more than political jargon we can safely ignore, it literally means absolutely nothing.
This of course without even touching upon the fact that not all laws are correct or moral. In other words, there are plenty of laws that in my opinion are against humanity, and those who've broken them in the past are and should be revered as heroes. This, this little distinction is why Assange deserves praise and not scorn from us.
Why should governments get to run things in the shadows? Why should they get to kill civilians with their made up wars, rig elections, etc, without being held accountable? Who do governments serve? Are they not here to serve us, the constituency? Yet they want to keep all their doings in the dark. How does that make any sense at all?
To anyone that is shouting from the rooftops that this is a win, let me just say: You've not been paying attention, and you are part of the problem. I'm flabbergasted, shocked, that some people who claim to be humanists left leaning thinkers are cheering on Assange's arrest. How did that happen? I mean, I don't care if you are right, left or center, this is an attack on Freedom and if you can't see it, I literally have no hope for you.
50 Years from now
We will remember this event with shame, and I do mean that literally. We will think back to the time when we killed accountability for the powers that be, and thus recoil at the very notion Democracy we claim to love so much.
Every single politician who is cheering this on should know, we the people won't forget their names, and history won't be kind to their now tainted legacy.
