A horoscope is only a chart of the sky precisely as observed from the Earth at a specific time and at any given area. Houses in soothsaying allude to the ARTIFICIAL method for partitioning the sky as observed from the Earth in 12 sections. Houses are known as the Bhavas in Vedic Astrology. Houses are one of the three fundamental apparatuses for throwing a horoscope other two being arrangement of planets and signs in the horoscope.
Lagna (Ascendant) Bhava or the primary house begins from the point that just ascents in the East and the entire zone that is yet to ascend next beneath skyline and reaches out up to second house cusp. The point precisely inverse the East of first house cusp is the beginning of seventh house. That piece of sky which has risen just before birth and expands upwards in the Eastern skyline is the twelfth Bhava or house. The best most point in the sky at any given area is the beginning stage of tenth house or the Midheaven and the contrary point underneath the earth is known as the fourth house.
Consequently we can comprehend from the above articulations that the time from around two hours previously dawn till the correct time of dawn, the Sun will be in the first house and the time roughly two hours previously dusk till the correct time of nightfall, Sun will be in seventh house. Correspondingly, from the time the Sun is precisely overhead at any given area and till around two hours after that Sun will be in tenth house.
The first, tenth, seventh and fourth house are primary mainstays of a horoscope. They are known as the Angular or Cardinal or Kendra (which means focus in Vedic Astrology) Houses. The following houses to the edges or Kendra viz. second, fifth, eighth and eleventh are known as the Fixed (which means material or cash related in Vedic Astrology). The staying four houses viz. third, sixth, ninth and twelfth are known as the Cadent (which means to decrease, diminish or cost).
The houses can also be divided into four trinities:
1) Trinity of Dharma or Spirituality:
Houses 1, 5 and 9
They identify with the Fire indications of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius (1) Body (5) Heart, Progeny and Education and (9) Luck, Dharma, Higher education and Higher Mind
2) Trinity of Artha or Wealth:
Houses 2, 6 and 10
They identify with Earth indication of Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn (2) Possessions, (6) Comforts, for example, nourishment, workers and wellbeing and (10) Honor, social standing and acclaim.
3) Trinity of Kama or Relationships:
Houses 3, 7 and 11
They identify with Airy indications of Gemini, Libra and Aquarius (3) Siblings and Hard work (7) Business, Marriage and Partnerships (11) Income/Profit and Friends
4) Trinity of Moksha or Final Liberation of Soul:
Houses 4, 8 and 12
They identify with Water indications of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. (4) Environment at later piece of life and luxury/comfort (8) Regeneration and Death (12) Expense, Travels and Suffering and self-fixing.
