The Sun in Aries Square Pluto in Capricorn
Today's news
There have been changes in the celestial patterns lately, which suggest -- of course -- changes in life for all of us, everywhere. One of those changes is the Sun in Aries forming a square with Pluto in Capricorn. You can see what this looks like to an astrologer in the chart above.
The theme of this pattern is:
You -- your self-image, your ambitions, your essential being
must accommodate major changes in another
competing set of life interests.
So who are the players?
The Sun represents your sense of who you are, your personal ambitions, your desire to have meaning in life and your ability to direct the course of your life.
Right now, The Sun is in Aries. This brings a certain set of attitudes -- a definite energy to your personality, your approach to life and the choices you make. Aries energy is forthright, direct, candid and passionate. It has boatloads of confidence and ambition. It is independent, resourceful and assertive -- the most dynamic energy in the Zodiac. Right now, it is yours to use and enjoy.
Pluto represents transformation, fundamental creativity and change, improvement -- through both evolution and catastrophe (whatever it takes.) It is the awesome archetype of birth, death and rebirth in action -- and it, too, is at work somewhere in your life.
Pluto, for the next several years, is in Capricorn. This is another energy for us all to work with -- and accommodate. Capricorn energy is patient, determined, self-controlled and very status conscious. It believes in many traditional virtues like playing by the rules, meeting your responsibilities to others, observing the chain of command, and paying your dues before you reach your goals. It, too, is a powerful energy, but it moves slowly, cautiously and with resolve.
Aries / Capricorn combinations don't always get along. Aries gets impatient with Capricorn's slow-but-steady ways. Capricorn finds Aries too impulsive, hot-headed and "ungovernable." "Falling in line" is a big Capricorn virtue. Aries doesn't salute that at all. Right now, these two very different energies (and attitudes) are at odds somewhere in you.
What's happening?
These celestial changes -- as the Sun in Aries came square to Pluto in Capricorn -- forecast changes in perspective and choices for us all to consider, especially as Mercury's time in retrograde ends on April 15.
Aries / Capricorn squares show conflicts between what you want to do -- and what you think you should do -- or what you have to do. They also show trouble between your desire for independence and new initiatives ... and old habits, entrenched traditions, "the way we've always done things" ... and your professional responsibilities and commitments.
Decisions, decisions
Some of this problem exists in your own head, but some originates in the real world, too. (In other words, it's not all in your mind!!)
It's a clash between your desire to be your own person ... and your equally strong commands to meet the expectations others have or impose on you. Often your professional standing, your career direction and your public life image exert this kind of pressure.
To break the "agreement" can feel dangerous and frightening. If you stop playing the part others depend on ... what next?
Somehow, you have to make it work
The square between The Sun and Pluto will bring these questions to an uncomfortable boil. Changes in who you are now confront all these powerful (and "permanent") fixtures some of which -- at least in the eyes of "your public" literally define your worth. So, as I said ... if you've stopped being that person (or just can't continue being that any longer) ... how does that change ... everything?
Can you make adjustments? What gets uprooted? How inconvenient and expensive will all this be? How big a change do you have to make? Those are some of the questions that come with this aspect. You are redefining yourself based on your new "calling."
And because energy flows both ways, as your journey curves into new paths and opportunities, the person you are now will change further.
I've compared the parts of you and your life (all of us, of course) to pieces of a mobile. Touch one ... and everything moves. Remove or reposition one piece, and the whole structure assumes a new design. That's what's happening now.
What to expect?
- Intense self-examination and questioning ---> what do I really want my life to be about from this point forward?
- Considerable discomfort as you look at who you are, what you want, where you are now and where you want to go
- Proactive, decisive moves to make needed adjustments ... which can cause further disruption -- temporarily
The Sun square to Pluto accompanies a time when you feel "compelled to change -- for one set of reasons or the other. Either you can see you have changed and so you must adjust your targets for what you want to be and accomplish in the future, or you see your life is moving in new directions, becoming "something else" -- bringing you unforeseen options.
In that case, you'll need to modify yourself -- your attitudes, your goals, your intentions, your statement to the world about who you are and what you stand for. In reality, it may be a little of both. Again ... as I said, energy runs on two-way streets.
How long does this last?
About two weeks.
Into late April.
Looking ahead
By this time next month, you'll have made some important decisions, realigned your values ... and life will have smoothed out considerably -- on these issues. Mercury turns direct on April 15 ... so where is 5° Aries in your Natal Chart? Life there will soon start moving forward again, too. In fact, the terrain will improve a lot in the next four weeks. What a relief!
What does this mean to YOU?
The Sun is at 21° of Aries. Pluto is at 21° of Capricorn. These specific points in the sky are also places in your Natal Chart. The Sun's position shows where your self-image and ambitions are focused now -- singing "I gotta be ME!!" at the top of their lungs. Pluto's position shows a vast set of life concerns that are undergoing fundamental change and improvement -- both because of this and in ways that hinder it. This friction is what you need to resolve.
You may not know your Natal Chart -- or have the information to construct one, even online. But with just your birthday -- not even the year if you're shy ... I can pass along some information that will help you see these changes happening in your life -- because you'll know what to look for. It's not like you've got a lot to lose ... and it might help make things easier.
If you're game, you know what to do next -- down there in the comments. And if you read down this far, I salute your persistence. Get to work ... and have a terrific day!!
Thank you for stopping by!
If you've always known there was more to Astrology than Sun Sign material and the three line daily horoscope in the newspaper, climb aboard and follow this blog. You'll find a world of wisdom detailing how you were designed to work with life ... and why you are the way you are -- all in quick-to-read, easy-to-digest-and-remember, written-in-plain-English essays that offer plenty of food for thought.
Little by little, I'm doing a set of articles that talks about all the elements in your horoscope and what they have to say about you. If you "know something" about Astrology -- or know something about your chart placements, that will help you get more from this material.
If you don't ... well, this is one place you can learn. We all have to start somewhere ... because we aren't born knowing this stuff. Meanwhile, if you've never seen your horoscope ... and don't have a clue how to work with it, maybe it's time to find out. There are lots of "chart services" on the internet -- some of whom produce decent, readable charts "for free" and some are so awful and confusing that even I can't read them easily -- and I've worked with charts for decades.
One extremely user-friendly chart site is here: AstroLabe. I recommend them if you want a simple, easy-to-read chart. I think they even give a reasonable little interpretive reading of your horoscope as part of the package. You'll need to know your birth information -- day, month, year, time and geographical place. Without all that your chart will have limited accuracy.
Or, if you want to get serious and really talk about this, upvote this post and start a conversation in the comments section sometime in the next six days from the time of publication. We'll go from there depending on what you want to know.
Questions about any of this? -- Upvote this post and talk to me in comments. It's a terrific way to build value for yourself and the community ... and it will give me ideas of what to write about in future posts. Believe me there is lots to say about the way The Sun, The Moon -- and all the other elements in a horoscope, all the other components of Astrology -- work together to interpret you and your story -- and what it all means to the person you've become.
About the art in our visual essays ...
Although sometimes the background pictures in our visual essays support the topic and text, they don't always. Sometimes the connection is clear. Sometimes it's symbolic and subtle. Sometimes, there's no connection at all.
The scenes depict landscapes and natural features, buildings and wildlife. They were chosen because they show something lovely or interesting ... or simply because the photo appealed to me.
Our spectacular and remarkable planet is changing at astonishing speed. Rarely are these changes for the better. Few people seem to know ... or care ... or have the will and power to do anything about this. It may not be long before the world humans have known and lived in for centuries is forever lost. We certainly won't be able to make repairs as fast as we destroyed it.
So a few years ago I began collecting pictures of the way things were ... and still are for now, a record of the beauty we have while it is still ours to love and honor.
The photos here are part of that collection, with sincere thanks to the artists who saw these moments ... and with their cameras ... preserved them. All of us at Enchanted Spirit are profoundly grateful to them for their generosity and skill ... and for the added grace, depth and dimension their art brings to ours.
