Dukes and Duchesses of the Deserted!
Sorry for the delay, folks. This was supposed to be posted on Monday but, you know, life tends to get in the way sometimes. That being said, after 10 awesome weeks of the ASWcontest, we're going to take this week off as I can foresee myself being too busy the next few days as well. Look for the new theme announcement on Tuesday!
The Theme:
This week's theme was = In the woods! The abandoned subjects must have been found in the woods/forest/jungle.
The results:
1st Place Winner - 10 SBD:
This photo of an old tank in a hedge row was just awesome. It was a little poetic to me. As great as mankind is at building weapons of destruction and death, mother nature will always win every battle... on a long enough timeline.
From the author: "I found this abandoned tank in North Cotabato City. I stopped and take a photo of it coz it makes me think a lot about the history of our city. I don't think if this tank was used during the World War II or it is used against the terrorist here in our country."

This entry by resonated with me a bit. In one way, because it was a boat out in the middle of the woods, which is pretty cool on its own. But in an abstract way, I love that it says "HOPE" as the earth reclaims the object. That's my hope for a lot of things our species has done to our planet.
From the author: "I love all the quirky things that appear in the deterioration process,
and how nature can reclaim that which man has made. This boat was found in New England
sitting all by itself on a small hill, surrounded by the deeper forest of trees."

As usual, there were a lot of great entire this week... but I kept reminding myself to focus on theme of "in the woods". Subjects that were away from society and other development; and this image really seemed to embody it.
From the author: "Last October, my friend and I hiked the trail to the spring where this water wheel was once functional, and it does actually jump out and surprise you!"

FINAL THOUGHTS
Once again, I apologize in the delay for judging this week's contest. It sucks to become so busy that you don't have time to post, but ya gotta keep those bills paid, right? I liked this week's theme quite a bit. My wife and I are big hikers and we always love to come across old house foundations, abandoned railroad tracks, and the like. Congratulations to this week's winners! I look forward to the next round of the ASW contest!
Abandoned Shit Weekly Contest - №. 11 will be announced next week (Tuesday) and look for the official contest post to see what the week's theme will be!
