I have just listed items that usually appeal only to the South African collector, for sale online. Since we have a high emigration rate that often results in homesickness, these kind of collectibles are always popular.
An old Codd bottle from a South African company.
" The Codd bottle was designed and manufactured to enclose a marble and a rubber washer/gasket in the neck. The bottles are filled upside down, and pressure of the gas in the bottle forced the marble against the washer, sealing in the carbonation. " Wikipedia
South African Railways items is a very popular collectible Africana category. I haven't had a certificate like this before so I had to guess it's starting price, at R95 ($7).
A random photo print. I hate to throw things like this away, so I always try to sell them first. I only listed it for R5 ($0,39).
Vintage petrol station collectible.
This is an old girl's dress. It didn't make it online. I sold it directly to my museum friend.
This cloth promoting the political party of the era looks unused.
" John Vorster, served as the Prime Minister of South Africa from 1966 to 1978 and as the fourth State President of South Africa from 1978 to 1979. Vorster was known for his staunch adherence to apartheid, overseeing (as Minister of Justice) the Rivonia Trial in which Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment for sabotage, and (as Prime Minister) the Terrorism Act, the complete abolition of non-white political representation, the Soweto Riots and the Steve Biko crisis." Another memento from our turbulent political history. A significant amount of police resources were used to quell political unrest in the 1980's.
On a gentler note, cat's love packing material and boxes, so that makes our home cat heaven.
Snuffles, my half blind rescue feral kitten chilling on a roll of material stored away.
