Definitely a good contrast between the two. I mean look at POTUS. What the fuck does he know.
I'm a teacher - I need both expertise and authority to do my job. Respect is earnt, however, via my ability to form relationships, be compassionate and empathetic and reasonable, and knowing my stuff and being passioante about it - NOT through authority. I can easily punish but then I'm not a good teacher. However I do require a general respect that should be extended to everyone - the right for others to learn without being disrupted, for example, to be polite so that my working life is as nice as it can be so i can dedicate more time to being a good teacher and not dealing with poor behaviour. Etc. Fine lines.
