I saw this big poster in the lift of Sunday Putra Mall, and I was touched and almost melted with thankfulness. At the same time, being reminded that autistic people are awesome.
Autsome is Awesome
We had lunch today at this mall for 1st day Chinese New Year and this thing caught my attention. I had been having some challenge relating with one of my close friends who is autistic, but not the serious type, we call it Aspergers.
As much as I find it difficult to grasp how she operates in her thinking world, it is even harder for her to understand me or us. We had been rubbing on each other's shoulders because the more we had to closely work together, the more we found out we are so different - as though we are from totally different world.
My friend has difficulty relating to me what she feels and often the words in her brain doesn't come out from the mouth accurately, causing alot of miscommunication and working relationship is affected.
I was rather tired explaining to her how we feels, how we operates, but to her, we are a bunch of complicated people, just because she is complicated as well. The way her brain wired is different from me. We sat down. We had heart-to-heart talk about our differences, and many times, she would break down into tears, reminiscing past hurts of friends ditching her for finding her weird. And to my surprise, I am the first person who tried to sit down with her and actually talked it out to point out our differences in order to work together effectively.
Let me tell you, I am blessed to know this friend of mine. She has the purest heart with zero evil or selfish intention, and always kind and helpful, thinking of others first, despite the exhibit of weird behavior sometimes. Indeed, autsome is awesome.
I am going to show her this poster soon. 😊
