I have a 91 Volvo 745Ti with almost 400,000 miles on it. And my transmission is finally starting to mess up. I took it on a spirited drive through the foothills one hot weekend and my transmission decided it was going to start having issues shifting up to the next gear. Pulling some of the fluid showed to be extremely dark and burnt smelling. Now on all honesty in the 200,000 plus miles that I've had the car I get to do anything with the transmission. And now I'm paying for it. I did a transmission flush using the cheapest high mileage synthetic transmission fluid from Walmart. To do this I disconnected the transmission cooler return line from the radiator, attached a hose, putting it in a bucket, and while the car ran slowly poured new fluid down the dipstick. I cycled out about 3 gallons of fluid this way.
From left to right you have a clean q-tip the last gallon I pulled out and the first gallon of transmission fluid I pulled out, you can clearly see the difference.
If I'm gentle with the car it shifts and drives better than it ever has, but I went a little fast on a u-turn, spun the tires, and the transmission started acting up again. So now I have to look at replacing the transmission for Angel can I get a drink carrier too
